Handcrafted leather footwear requires a series of care to prolong its longevity. The boots, ankle boots and shoes that we manufacture at Sport y Equitación SL are made from different leathers, one of the most commonly used is calfskin, which is shaped using a handcrafted process in which the leathers are natural and not altered. Leathers are made from an organic, living material, and this is one of the characteristics that distinguish luxury leather footwear from other types of footwear. Synthetic leathers are generally of much lower quality and real leathers used in industrial manufacturing processes are subject to various treatments that reduce their flexibility, porosity, texture and shine. Boots or shoes made from quality genuine leather that receive the proper care can last a lifetime. Natural leather is very resistant but over time and the action of external agents such as water, humidity, heat and sun they can suffer damage. To maintain the naturalness of this type of footwear, it is important to nourish and protect our footwear, which will allow for longer and more pleasant use.
Handmade shoes become more personal as we wear them, taking on the shape of our feet naturally, adapting to your feet and your way of walking and living. To get the most out of them on outings and events, we must ensure that they age healthily. This way, they will maintain their essence and the characteristics that make them so personal. Taking care of shoes guarantees the preservation of the leather, maintaining its flexibility and natural feel.
The quality of the leather is combined with the Goodyear welt system, which together offers a luxury shoe that is worthy of being pampered so that we feel good about wearing it.
The process to take care of our handmade natural leather footwear is very simple. The first thing is to regularly apply cream to the footwear. There are various types of cream, some people even use moisturizing cream for our skin, however at Sport y Equitación we have natural creams and pastes, specifically designed to maximize the care of our footwear.
Our cream is a natural, water-based product that does not contain any chemicals to prevent the leather from deteriorating. With this cream, shoes maintain their original colour and shine.
Our paste also has a natural composition, created from beeswax and jojoba oil. This paste is the ideal complement to protect our footwear from these external aggressions.
Its use and application is simple. First, clean the shoe with a brush or cloth to remove dirt and dust from the outside. Then, apply the beeswax paste using a cloth or sponge to create a thin layer over the entire length of the shoe's leather. This operation should be carried out every 6 or 8 uses of the shoe.
The cream will be applied occasionally and will aim to enhance the shine and original colour. We will apply it for special occasions when we want to show off our shoes in their maximum splendour. Just like the paste, once the shoes are clean, a thin layer will be applied over the entire surface, with the help of a cloth or sponge. Then we will wait for the cream to dry (10 minutes) and we will brush or wipe with another clean cloth. This way, it will shine again and show its most natural colour.
